Hughes Hubbard & Reed has won the 2014 Legal 500 United States Award for "International Arbitration—Team of the Year."

The award will be presented Sept. 24 during a dinner at The Loeb Boathouse in New York City's Central Park. Other finalists in the category included Arnold & Porter and White & Case.

"We are thrilled to receive this award," said John Townsend, co-chair of the International Arbitration group in the US. "All the finalists were worthy of winning. The fact that Hughes Hubbard was chosen is truly an honor and a recognition of teamwork, dedication and hard work."

The Legal 500 US Awards recognize the best private practice teams over the past 12 months based on comprehensive research and over 50,000 interviews.

Among successful matters in the past year, Hughes Hubbard's Arbitration Group obtained another complete victory for Canada in the ongoing softwood lumber dispute with the US over alleged subsidies to Canadian softwood lumber exports; won an International Centre for Dispute Resolution arbitration for the sister of a Greek shipping magnate in a dispute with her brother over division of the family business; and secured a favorable award for Merck in a patent and distribution dispute with a Japanese pharmaceutical company.

"This award is a testament to the outstanding efforts of our exceptional team of arbitration lawyers," said John Fellas, the group's other co-chair. "Earning this recognition demonstrates our focus on high-quality client service and our ability to deliver satisfying results."
