March 13, 2025 – Hughes Hubbard received Her Justice’s Firm Partnership Award, one of the 2025 Commitment To Justice Awards, for our “exemplary Summer Associate Program, which Her Justice views as a model for a well-run, high-impact pro bono initiative.”

This award is given to institutions that have collaborated with Her Justice to deliver on the promise of pro bono service.

“Hughes Hubbard & Reed’s Summer Associate Program sets the standard for excellence. The program’s firm attorneys expertly guide their summer associates, using trauma informed lawyering methods, and work alongside them, providing practical and strategic insight from their previous case experiences. Their immigration caseload consists primarily of U visas – which are a real commitment as they take years to adjudicate,” wrote Her Justices supervising attorneys Prathiba Desai and Diane Feniello. “Hughes Hubbard expertly maintains these longstanding cases, remaining in touch with each client and responding to the ever-changing immigration landscape by keeping clients abreast of what’s next. Each year, the firm delivers outstanding wins for the women they represent, helping them turn the page and build a new beginning.”

Her Justice highlighted Vilia Hayes, Daniel Chan, James Henseler, Rachel Marks and Ana Mello for their advocacy as leaders of Hughes Hubbard’s Summer Associate Program.

“Public service is a central part of Hughes Hubbard’s culture, and we have a long-standing commitment to providing legal services to underserved communities,” the firm wrote in a statement. “Our Summer Associate Program provides the newest members of our firm the opportunity to connect with immigrant women, who were victims of domestic violence, and present them with a path to obtain permanent residency in the United States. Her Justice’s supervising attorneys are an invaluable resource and are incredibly dedicated to the work that they do. We are proud of our long-time partnership with Her Justice, which has allowed us to provide the crucial support for women seeking safety and stability for themselves and their families.”

Her Justice is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal help to low-income women in New York City that have been the victims of domestic violence, trafficking, or other crimes.
