Prior to Susan’s retirement, she was a partner in Hughes Hubbard’s New York office and head of the firm’s environmental practice. Susan was a former chief of the Environmental Protection unit at the U.S. Attorney's office for the Southern District of New York.
At Hughes Hubbard, she was particularly active in environmental litigation. Her environmental defense clients included serving as national counsel to a major oil company in product liability/environmental actions alleging contamination of water by a gas additive. In addition to litigation, Susan represented clients in administrative agency hearings and negotiations; federal superfund/state cleanups and compliance counseling. She was also appointed by a U.S. District Court to serve as adviser to the cleanup of the notorious Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island.
Susan’s professional activities include serving as a member of the Federal Bar Council and a member of the New York City Water Board. She was also a member of the Judiciary Committee, Criminal Law Committee and Committee on Women in the Profession of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Susan is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Community School of Bergen County. Her fundraising and pro bono work has included Coalition for the Homeless, First Step Program, Children International, GEMS (Girls and Education Mentoring Services) and New York City Inner City Outings.
